Change your life – yoga for all will help you

Like many of us I start a new chapter in my life with many good intentions. I want to be a better person, a better partner, a better mother, a better employee. But how can I do this? I am so busy with my everyday life that there is absolutely no time to go to various classes, become slimmer, broaden my knowledge, put more hours into my work, try to understand my partner, spend more time with my children etc.

I always wanted to take up yoga as we all know that yoga is suitable for all, irrespective of age or origin. But how and where to start? Can yoga really help to achieve all the issues above?

Let’s try to see the possibilities.

Which of the issues described above do I want to tackle first? Is it health, family, work? Or can it be all of it? Is there a way which automatically leads to improvements in all these sectors? Yoga for all could be this way forward. But where to learn, when to do and how to improve?

Wherever you live, you will find several yoga classes close to your home or work place. But not every class is suitable for everyone. You will have to try to see for yourself which class or teacher suits you and if the time table can be incorporated in your everyday life. Sometimes this is very challenging and you will give up – thinking, well, yoga for all is good, but not for me.

At this stage, do not give up! Make a deal with yourself. Promise yourself that you will get rewarded with a nice meal out, a shopping trip, a short holiday or anything else you fancy when you stick for one month to this idea of yoga for all. You will try to find a teacher in your area at an affordable price, at a convenient time and you promise yourself you will try out at least 3 classes with different teachers.

You have found a suitable teacher and class and attended a couple of lessons. That is already a very big step forward and it should feel very good. You may also have rewarded yourself for sticking to your plan. But there a more important things in your life at the moment, so you cannot continue to go to classes regularly and you do not see any improvement in your daily life or behaviour. So is this ideal of yoga for all not for you?

Now you are at a point where you need persistence – do not give up! Do not measure the success after just a couple of weeks. Some things, and especially important steps in your life, need time. Try to just continue to go to yoga classes at least once a week, try to read books about yoga, buy a nice yoga mat which you later can use at home and just get into the habit of attending yoga classes, even if you are not 100% convinced that this will change your life. Keep going!

You might feel not very enthusiastic about yoga and its outcome – at this stage look for people who went the same way. You will soon discover that they all had the same problems initially but there will be some people you meet who can tell you that there were dramatic changes in their lives because of this ideal of yoga for all. Even is their stories might not be transferred to your life experience, it should tell you that the possibilities are many and everybody will feel something different but the outcome is always positive and has already helped improve lives of many people around the globe.

Nowadays we are all so busy with our lives, family, works, holidays, hobbies and much more that we cannot take up another time consuming “hobby”. This is what most people feel. Nobody will tell you that he or she is bored and looking for something to fill empty hours. But does all this activity make us happy? Is it not sometimes that we think we have to do something not to go deeper into ourselves? Are we afraid to have a closer look at our life? Do all these activities just cover another emptiness?

If you think there is some truth in what I am telling you, try to stick to yoga for 6 months – it it not difficult, suitable for all, all ages, all backgrounds, all nationalities, all religions and it is very easy to achieve – you do not need a lot of time or money to fulfil the promise you might have given to you. Get up and do it!

This is something i really should look at.
with age comes, as you say, inflexibility.
you start to notice that odd pain in the lower back.
After you work on the car you feel stretched muscles for a few more days, that warm bath really doesn’t hit the spot anymore.
i try to do some exercise every day, but it doesn’t always happen.
do you know how long the average class time is.
and for a self conscious male – would it be better to go for yoga or tai-chi?
    many thanks for you response

      Hello Phil
yoga will definitely help overcome inflexibility and also work on back pain. The average class time is about 1,5 hours. If you are not sure about yoga or tai-chi, just book one class and you will see what you like more.
All the best and warm regards
